Do you have to go to Bavaria — or Michigan’s famous Oktoberfest — to dine al fresco on bratwurst and ’kraut accompanied by frothy brews? Not according to new website Dasbierhausvt.com, which maintains that residents of Burlington could be sunning themselves in a biergarten as soon as June.

The site boasts: “Das Bierhaus will be opening on lower Church St. in June of 2009 ... It will feature a traditional German setting on the ground floor, a ski chalet interior on the second floor, and Burlington’s only biergarten on the roof.” Where’s all this going? A photo of the resto’s future home shows the lot that once housed Five Spice Café.

If employment postings on the site are any indication, the eatery’s owners have a sense of humor. Future bouncers at Das Bierhaus should “have experience in bouncing, law enforcement, motorcycle gangs or another related line of work ... and be able to remove Hans and Franz forcibly, if needed.” Waitresses should be “comfortable working in a dirndl.” An essay question asks applicants to write a haiku explaining how to survive an attack by “a velociraptor ... on a hoverboard.”

Though the site is accepting electronic employment applications, it offers no contact info for the owners. Calls to Burlington’s Department of Planning & Zoning Commission were not returned.

They’re barely over the drinking age themselves, but Pat Lahey and John Farr, both 23, and Nathan Messier, 26, plan to open their own bar in the former Bonz Smokehouse & Grill space in Morrisville.

The joint, called The Knotty Pine, is scheduled to start serving suds in June and will also dish up casual fare such as wings and burgers.
