New American teenagers from the King Street Center in Burlington visited Merrymac Farm in Charlotte six times this summer to learn good horsemanship. This means mucking out the stalls, grooming the horses and learning how to ride and trot. Farm owner Era MacDonald and a group of volunteers introduced the youth to the horses, bunnies, kittens and chickens that inhabit the picturesque spot. Eva visited the group on their last day to see the kids riding and to find out what this experience meant to them.

King Street is hoping to continue this program into the school year if they can obtain funding.
