I'm a filmmaker, writer and media educator living in the south end of Burlington. I'm particularly interested in the social effects of democratized media and technology. Gutenberg set us free in the 1400s but moveable type had nothing on the internet when it comes to the democratizing power of information technology. I maintain a number of blogs for a number of organizations, but this tends to be the common thread among them — greater personal freedom through social media and technology.

  • Occupation: filmmaker/writer/media educator
  • Favorite part of my job: Telling stories
  • Least favorite part of my job: deadlines
  • 1st PC: Timex Sinclair 1000 (1982)
  • Favorite VT hotspot: Speeder and Earl's Pine Street
  • When I'm not in front of my computer I am: less free
  • I wish computers could: do my laundry
  • Top websites I read daily: Boing Boing, gerrycanavan.blogspot.com, washingtonmonthly.com, undead molly, nytimes.com

From 2014-2020, Seven Days allowed readers to comment on all stories posted on our website. While we've appreciated the suggestions and insights, right now Seven Days is prioritizing our core mission — producing high-quality, responsible local journalism — over moderating online debates between readers.

To criticize, correct or praise our reporting, please send us a letter to the editor or send us a tip. We’ll check it out and report the results.

Online comments may return when we have better tech tools for managing them. Thanks for reading.
