Obituary: James Patrick Brown

James Patrick Brown, (brown dog), age 62 years, died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday evening May 14, 2013.

Born in Burlington on June 14, 1950, he was the son of the late Jeannine LaRiviere and Robert Brown. He attended Burlington High School and on November 8, 1980, was married to the former Kathleen Burnell who survives him.

Jim was self-employed for most of his working life owning and operating video stores in Swanton, Milton and Alburgh as well as the Broken Yoke Cafe in Swanton. He was also the owner of Three Forks Pizza in Randolph, South Royalton and Champlain, NY, Papa Jim's Pizzeria in St. Albans and most recently New England Treasures - Antiques and Restorations. In earlier years he had been employed as a printer for Bertek.

He was a passionate outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting with his sons and friends. He was an amazing storyteller and a man that was bigger than life, a compassionate, dedicated family man and friend to many.

Jim is survived by his wife and soul mate of 33 years, Kathleen M. Brown of Swanton; three sons, Adam Brown and his wife Alli of Burlington, Kyle Brown and wife Jennifer of Jeffersonville, Casey Brown and wife Heather of Swanton and his granddaughter Ryan Brown of Burlington. He also leaves nieces, Nicole and Samantha Burnell; nephews, Robert Burnell III and Alex Burnell and his mother and father-in-law, Robert Sr. and Jean Burnell. Also surviving are his adopted brothers, Christopher Conant and his predeceased wife Denise Conant, Robert Chevalier and his wife Kelly and Peter Chevalier and wife Jayne.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday May 22, 2013, at 6 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Father Emmanuel I. Ajanma will officiate.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Gifts in Jim's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 55 Day Lane, Williston 05495 or to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans 05478.
