Obituary: Dale Jean LaBombard

Dale Jean LaBombard, age 74 years, a lifelong resident of this area died unexpectedly early Sunday morning March 30, 2014, while visiting her sister in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Born at home in Highgate Springs on May 21, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Dora (Dow) Olds. She attended Highgate schools graduating from the former Highgate High School. On August 30, 1969, she was married to Bird Joseph LaBombard who survives her.

A native of Highgate Springs Dale was born at home, and her mother without a doctor in attendance was assisted by friend and neighbor Angie Maskell. Dale was also very proud of her Highgate Springs heritage and loved being referred to as a “Springer”.

As a very hard working and ambitious woman Dale began working at a very early age at her father’s restaurant in Highgate Springs. Later she also worked at The Pine Restaurant in Highgate Springs as well as for her sister at Ruth’s Snack Bar in Swanton. More recently she will be remembered for her many years of employment with the former Swanton Ben Franklin Store and at the Price Chopper Bakery in St. Albans. In addition she was also a foster mother to 28 children and operated a children’s daycare out of her home. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 and the former Swanton American Legion Auxiliaries. She will also be remembered as a avid master quilt maker.

Besides her husband Bird of 44 years, Dale leaves three children, Leo Meigs and his wife Judy of St. Albans, Ace Greenia and wife Laurie of Richford and Carlena Joyce Hall of Swanton; three grandchildren, Jessie Hannon of Jeffersonville, Kayley Hall of Alburgh and Lucas Hall of Richford; one sister, Beverly Waterhouse of Port St. Lucie, FL and many nieces and nephews.

Dale was predeceased by her parents, a daughter Kathy at birth, three brothers, Roland, Leon and Kennison Olds and two sisters, Ila Richards and Ruth Root.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday April 11, 2014, at 3 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Anne Torrance Bachmann will officiate.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
