In 1973, the all-female a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock took the stage for the first time. More than 40 years and several lineups later, the Grammy Award-winning group is still at it. Dubbed “a harmonic machine that exceeds the sum of its parts” by the Ann Arbor News, the group explores the potential of the human voice. Accompanied onstage by a sign-language interpreter, five vocalists draw from a repertoire rooted in African American tradition to present a seasonal concert. From Kwanzaa to Christmas, a varied program highlights faiths and religions around the globe.
