Side Dishes: Wining and dining at Price Chopper

Published June 27, 2007 at 8:32 p.m.

Wine tasting isn't only for folks who frequent fancy restaurants. This Saturday, Price Chopper on Shelburne Road shows off six wines, including Rosemount Shiraz and Monkey Bay Sauvignon Blanc, along with samples of specialty cheeses, store-made "artisan" breads and seafood.

This will be the store's third pairing since legislation made it legal for holders of second-class liquor licenses to pour for patrons. Why wine? Store manager Gary Trudo believes "there are a lot of customers who want to try wine, but because of the price point, they're nervous . . ."

Though not a wine drinker himself, Trudo came up with the idea. "I thought it was a great opportunity . . . I know how important wines are to the food table," he explains. Trudo says most other Vermont 'Choppers now hold tastings, too. Don't forget to bring your ID.
