More than 200 students from across the state gathered at Green Mountain Union High School in Chester for Outright Vermont's 13th annual Queer and Allied Youth Summit. Fifty schools and 72 towns were represented by the LGBTQ+ youth, who spent 24 hours doing peer-led workshops, holding a Youth Pride March and a SpeakOUT, and celebrating with an open mic and Queer Prom. Outright Vermont organizes the event and is celebrating its 30th birthday with a Gayla on June 21. We talked to the youth about the challenges of living in our rural state and the importance of events like these, where they can be themselves and connect with other members of the LGBTQ+ community.
