For the eighth year, Middlebury College presents the Middlebury Bach Festival, a series of performances celebrating the life and work of the German composer. This year’s classical commemoration kicks off with a performance by internationally acclaimed cellist Steven Isserlis and harpsichordist Richard Egarr. Each a lauded musician in his own right, the players earned praise as a duo for their 2015 release Bach, Handel, Scarlatti: Gamba Sonatas. “Egarr on harpsichord matches Isserlis’ eloquence and rambunctious energy all the way,” writes the Guardian. The instrumentalists band together to perform sonatas by Luigi Boccherini, Domenico Scarlatti, George Frideric Handel and, of course, Johann Sebastian Bach.
