Six Cut at the Free Press

The Times Argus reports this morning on the Free Press layoffs:

"The layoffs are a result of economic trends that are impactingadvertising revenues. Unfortunately, we anticipate these trends tocontinue through 2008," the newspaper said in a prepared statementissued by Executive Editor Mike Townshend.

"Currently there are213 employees at the Burlington Free Press. Although the six employeesrepresent less than 3 percent of our employee base, we are cognizant ofthe financial and emotional impact of this decision," the statementsaid.

Mustachioed columnist Ed Shamy was among the casualties. Shay Totten says he'll have more in this week's "Fair Game."
