When: Tue., Oct. 4, 8 p.m. 2016
Though many bands are currently trying to reinvent ’80s synth music, Brooklyn-based Porches stand out in an ocean of vaguely European-sounding nu-wavers. Charmingly bleak lyrics and earworm-y hooks glow brightly through singer-songwriter Aaron Maine’s stoner haze. The group smartly balances melancholy and malaise with warm, gurgling synths and snappy electronic drums. Fellow Brooklynite (and Maine’s main squeeze) Greta Kline — aka Frankie Cosmos — is a frequent collaborator and appears on Porches’ acclaimed 2016 album Pool. Porches play on Tuesday, October 4, at ArtsRiot in Burlington, with support from Japanese Breakfast, Rivergazer and DJ Disco Phantom.
