William N. Lawrence, 71, died Sunday morning, Sept. 27, 2015 at Porter Medical Center, Middlebury.

Bill was born in Middletown, CT on March 13, 1944, the son of William E. and Edith (Francis) Lawrence. The family moved to Burlington when Bill was five years old. He attended Burlington schools, graduating from B.H.S. in 1965. He then joined the Navy, where he served for six years. Following his discharge, he served in the Marines and then joined the U.S. Army in New Jersey. In the Army, he served seventeen years as a drill sergeant at Fort Dix, NJ and ten years as a cook. At retirement, he was a SSG-E6.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Gloria (Bisbee) Lawrence of Vergennes; four children: William R. Herron of Chickasha, OK, William A. Geraw of NY, Marc Sanderson of Burlington and Katelynn E. Lawrence of Burlington; three sisters: Ruth Ann Barrancher and Ethel Horner, both of TX and Dora Peatman of Burlington and two brothers: David Lawrence of Burlington and John Lawrence of Middlebury.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Robert Lawrence and a brother, James H. Lawrence.

Memorial Services with full military honors will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 11 a.m. in Victory Baptist Church, 862 Route 7, Vergennes, followed by a luncheon. Later interment will be in Milton Village Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home.
