- Leon Jordan
Leon Jordan, 91, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, February 21, 2016 after a long courageous battle with cancer and COPD.
Leon was born to Edward and Cora (Sorrell) Jordan in Ludlow, Massachusetts on June 26th, 1924. Leon married the love of his life Bette Martell of Burlington, VT on January 6th, 1945 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Burlington.
After Graduating High school, Leon proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Leon served as a flight captain aboard a PBY aircraft during the Aleutian Campaign of World War II.
After returning from the Navy, Leon was employed by Bruhn's office machines. He later went to work for IBM where he received many certificates and achievement awards. Leon worked at IBM for many years until his retirement.
Leon built a camp on the lake in Grand Isle where he and his family spent many happy years. Leon Enjoyed many outdoor activities including, hunting, fishing, boating, and skiing both on water and snow.
Leon was predeceased by his Parents Edward and Cora Jordan, His beloved Wife Bette Jordan, and his sisters Edna Durgan and Lucille Jordan.
Leon is survived by his loving Daughters and their spouses Carol & Michael Colby Sr. of South Burlington, and Nancy & Oscar Krupp of Williston. Grandchildren and their spouses, Michael & Pammy Colby Jr. of South Burlington, and Lee Ann & Bruce Huff of Burlington, Great Grandchildren, Amber, Sean, Jake, & Alyssa. Sister-in-law Juna Poquette and husband Paul of Colchester, as well as many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sprague at the Cancer Center and his Primary care Physician Dr. Klikunas. As well as the VNA Staff and the Hospice workers who took such great care of Leon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 12:00 noon in St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the South Burlington Fire Department, 575 Dorset St., South Burlington, VT 05403 or to the American Cancer Society, 55 Day Laane, Williston, VT 05495.
