Obituary: Larry David Wall

Larry David Wall, age 80 years, a lifelong Swanton resident died early Tuesday evening November 5, 2013, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility with loving family at his side.

Born at home in Swanton on February 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Frederick E. and Edith M. (O'Leary) Wall. He graduated from the former St. Anne's Academy in 1951 and furthered his education at Champlain College. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 - 1956 and on December 15, 1956, was married to Shirley M Leavitt who survives him. He was employed for several years as an accountant with Boise Cascade of Sheldon.

As an active member of the Swanton Community, Larry was a member of the Swanton Village Fire Department for 30 years serving several of those years as Fire Chief. He also served as a member of the Swanton Planning Commission as well as the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Larry's family was his world. He was a private and quiet man with a sense of humor and was very proud of his Irish Ancestry. He was the true definition of a gentleman and took great pride in everything that he did. His interests included, impeccably maintaining his property, playing golf, the Boston Red Sox, riding the back roads and exploring the state of Vermont. He will be remembered for his love of Snickers Bars and Tootsie Rolls.

In addition to his wife Shirley of 56 years, Larry leaves two children, Michael Wall and Melissa M. Wagner and her husband Robert; two grandchildren, Bailey A. Buckley and Cassidy M. Wall; two step-grandchildren, Hannah and Kurt Wagner and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Larry was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jordan B. Buckley; four sisters, Ruth Wall, Eileen Dorsey, Elizabeth Desiderio and Catherine Steen and two brothers, Patrick and Robert Wall.

Larry's family would like to offer their sincerest thanks to the doctors and nurses at Fletcher Allen Health Care for their kindness and compassion, as well as Dr. Steven Grunberg, now deceased, for giving our family 18 more wonderful years with Larry.

Friends and family are invited to a Graveside Funeral Service with full military honors on Tuesday November 12, 2013, at 2 p.m. from the family lot in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 65 Canada St. Swanton.

At Larry's request there will be no public calling hours.
