National Theatre Live: 'War Horse'

When: Thu., Dec. 8, 2 & 7 p.m. 2016

The relationship between humans and animals threads through stories ranging from “Lassie” to Black Beauty. Shown on the big screen as part of National Theatre Live’s Encore Series, a live-action adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s novel War Horse focuses on the ties that bind Albert, an English teenager, and his beloved steed Joey. After Joey is sold to the cavalry at the start of World War I, both he and Albert face trials and tribulations that highlight the terror of war and the strength of their bond. South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company brings the horse to life with full-size puppets that the Telegraph says “capture the very essence of everything equine.”

Price: $18.
