The Wayside Restaurant in Montpelier celebrated its 100th year with an ice cream social last Sunday. Established in 1918 by Effie Ballou, the popular eatery has been owned by three families over the years. Hundreds of guests enjoyed a walk down memory lane which included old photos of the iconic spot and current owners Karen and Brian Zecchinelli greeted friends and family. Governor Scott, Senator Leahy and U.S. Rep Welch were also in attendance to present the owners with commemorative plaques. The evening closed with a spectacular fireworks display that shone brightly against the Wayside's neon sign that has welcomed travelers for decades.
