Combining parenthood and a career is a tricky business. Finding the time to do my work as an illustrator and postdoctoral researcher, while also taking care of our 10-month-old daughter at home, requires creativity and some serious scheduling with my husband.
Despite my best effort, these two worlds can sneak into each other's space. During my walks around the neighborhood, a small army of doubts and worries silently follows my steps. They persist, no matter the volume of the podcast coming through my headphones or the number of miles I walk. I let them follow because I know that — little by little — I will conquer each one. Besides, fresh air is good for all of us.

Since 2014, Seven Days has allowed readers to comment on all stories posted on our website. While we’ve appreciated the suggestions and insights, the time has come to shut them down — at least temporarily.
While we champion free speech, facts are a matter of life and death during the coronavirus pandemic, and right now Seven Days is prioritizing the production of responsible journalism over moderating online debates between readers.
