Only the freshest of the fresh cuts make it into the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival. Now in its second year, the cinematic celebration serves up short and feature-length works from first- or second-time filmmakers. This year, the theme is “film as journalism.” Jay Craven, cofounder of Kingdom County Productions, has curated a smorgasbord of 90 films that fit the bill, to be screened in three venues. In addition to Q&A sessions with the camera creatives, festivalgoers can look forward to happy hours, a dance party and various festivities around town. Not to mention a morning coffee conversation with married actors Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard. Film buffs, get in line!
