At the quaint Harrington House Inn and Restaurant in Bethel — only an hour from Burlington — diners will be spoiled for choice. The $35 dinner menu offers a choice of six appetizers, from spicy salmon tartare to pickled shrimp with radish, cucumber and herb salad. Ditto for the main courses: a choice of five tempting dishes, from grilled petite tenderloin in a red wine sauce to pan-seared scallops with mushroom ragu, asparagus and crisp leeks, will make for some serious plate sharing.

Hungry yet? A bit further afield in Quechee, Shepard's Pie Restaurant has become a locals hangout known for upscale comfort food and live music. For a $10 lunch special, the chef will serve up either a "Grown Up Grilled Cheese" — with basil mayo and local cheddar and tomatoes — or Blue Hill mussels in a lime-scented, coconut-red-curry broth. The $25 dinner menu offers up such goodies as roasted heirloom beet salad, mussels in a white-wine broth, a house Shepard's Pie with local ground beef, or chicken roulade stuffed with Brie, apples, caramelized onions and herbs, then covered in a cider glaze.
