Protestors planted 3829 knee-high white flags on the Statehouse lawn in Montpelier last Friday morning in silent acknowledgment of American military personnel killed in the Iraq war. The display is part of an effort to mobilize Vermonters for a nationwide protest this weekend and coincided with Iraq Moratorium Day, held on the third Friday of every month. By Monday afternoon, five more American military personnel had been killed in Iraq, raising the total to 3834.
