First built in the 1800s, Vermont’s covered bridges are today a beloved source of state pride. Inspired by his wife Nancy Hayes Kilgore’s novel Wild Mountain, retired Burlington architect Kilgore has dedicated himself to documenting some of these icons in pastel. Six of his paintings are currently on view at Burlington’s Penny Cluse Café, inviting guests, lunchers and brunchers to meditate on nature and the obsolesced vernacular form.
