At one and a quarter miles, the Kentucky Derby is often referred to as “the most exciting two minutes in sports.” Held every year since 1875, the race sees jockeyed thoroughbreds round the track at Louisville’s Churchill Downs at breakneck speeds, vying for honor, glory and a substantial purse. This year, the mane event hits South Burlington, where country songster Jamie Lee Thurston teams up with Hinesburg nonprofit organization AFTER the Track to present an evening of revelry centered on the 142nd Run for the Roses. Equine enthusiasts saddle up for prerace festivities, a silent auction, a hat contest, a live screening of the derby and a high-octane concert by Thurston. Now, off to the races!
