Gogol Bordello are the world’s foremost purveyors of gypsy punk, a high-energy fusion of punk rock and Eastern European gypsy music that the A.V. Club aptly describes as “a whirling dervish of rubbery rhythms, bleating horns and fiddles that rip like Slayer riffs.” And the world-renowned band has a local tie, too: Front man Eugene Hütz, before he started palling around with Madonna and starring in films such as Everything Is Illuminated, was once the front man of seminal Burlington punks the Fags. Gogol Bordello play a two-night homecoming of sorts at the Higher Ground Ballroom in South Burlington this Friday, July 11, and Saturday, July 12.
Price: $30/33/50. AA
