Gabriel Garzón-Montano was born in New York City to a Colombian father and French mother. His 2014 debut EP, Bishouné: Alma del Huila reflects those multicultural origins, melding elements of salsa and cumbia with pop, R&B and electronica. This all filtered through the skewed lens of avant-garde — his mother worked with minimalist composer Philip Glass. The young songwriter’s music is nearly impossible to categorize, but it’s attracted some big-name fans, including Mayer Hawthorne, Lenny Kravitz and Drake. The last artist sampled Garzón-Montano’s “6 8” on his song “Jungle.” Garzón-Montano performs at Signal Kitchen in Burlington on Saturday, June 4, as part of the 2016 Burlington Discover Jazz Festival.
