'Folly' | Champlain College Art Gallery | Shows | Seven Days | Vermont's Independent Voice

When: Sept. 1-Oct. 5 2018

Referred to as “exploratory investigations into the unknown” by Champlain College Art Gallery curator Dana Heffern, this audiovisual installation immerses visitors into an otherworldly environment through the manipulation of light, color and sound. A collaboration of Champlain professors Jonathan Mikulak and Terry Sehr, “Folly” allows guests to ruminate between two mirrored, crinkly panels of acrylic and dichroic film (think colorful cellophane) spread over a coded visualization video. Ambient music complements ever-changing wisps of light that move across the gallery on all sides—Mikulak and Sehr write, “Liberating light and color from constraints opens up an immersive space with a central core.”
