A new breakfast, take-out and catering business called Kismet will be opening in Montpelier this December. Promising "intentionally delicious" food, owners Crystal Maderia and Alanna Dorf plan to carry lots of local products, gluten-free baked goods and handmade organic chocolates. They're working hard to whip their new venture - formerly Susan's Kitchen - into shape at 207 Barre Street. Follow their progress on the web at . . . Vermont Public Television is plugged into the local food network. On December 2, Chef Sean Buchanan of The Middlebury Inn hosts "VPT Cooks: Farm Fresh Dairy," with experts preparing recipes featuring Vermont dairy products. Maple-cream cheesecake will be on the menu - yum! On December 9 at 10 a.m., look for a rebroadcast of last year's "VPT Cooks: Pies" and more cooking shows closer to Christmas . . . The tasty results of Ben & Jerry's gingerbread-house contest will be on display at the Waterbury scoop shop throughout the month of December. Stop by to check out the offerings, which are competing in categories such as "best sense of humor," "most intricate" and, of course, "best in show." All proceeds from the event will benefit the New England Culinary Institute scholarship fund.
