Ben & Jerry's has a new product line designed for the kind of eater who's apt to scoop the chocolate chunks right out of a pint of ice cream: all-natural chocolates in the company's "iconic" flavors, such as Chubby Hubby, Karamel Sutra and Phish Food. By Father's Day, the sweet treats will be sold pre-packaged and by the piece at 30 selected scoop shops around the country.
For the past month, the company has been testing its whimsical truffles, bark and fudge-like "rolls" at the Maple Tree Place scoop shop in Williston. "So far there's lots of interest," says Manager Celest Patenaude.
Although the Chocolate Therapy, Espresso Buzz and hazelnut truffles are especially popular, Patenaude personally recommends the New York Super-Fudge Chunk Clusters, which she describes as "like a dark and milk chocolate vanilla caramel." The goodies cost between $5.50 and $8 per quarter-pound.
