Corinna Rose & Heirloom

When: Sat., Nov. 29, 7 p.m. 2014

Banjo wielding folk-rock troubadour Corinna Rose will make your heart flutter and use its beat to start a hoedown. Her debut album “Northeast Southwest” captures the warmth, joy and darkness of the tradition, yet pushes the boundaries of the genre using crooked rhythms, jazz chords and orchestral soundscapes. She has played over 200 shows across Canada, and participated in various festivals including the Montreal Folk Festival. She was the Grand Prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (2013) in the Folk category for her song "Green Mountain State" An imaginative mix of intimate folk music and classical instrumentation, Heirloom’s wistful songs are built from the lyrics up, and crafted with love and care. The group is made up of self-taught musicians and classically trained instrumentalists, and is influenced by artists such as Leonard Cohen, Sufjan Stevens, and Joanna Newsom. Together, their instruments create a warm, refreshing sound that is both welcoming and breathtaking, while leaving space for delicate vocals and earnest lyrics.
