It's difficult to make history come alive using just a textbook. Enter Preservation Burlington. The nonprofit dedicated to preserving and protecting the historic architecture of the Queen City recently released a Historic Architecture Toolkit, which aims to engage children ages 8 to 13 in local history and architectural heritage. Created by historians with education backgrounds, the toolkit provides samples of building materials, reference and coloring books, handouts, lessons, and a printable field notebook for students. For $25 to $50, local educators can rent the kit to use in their classrooms. The organization is also offering customizable historian-led walking tours of Burlington neighborhoods for $5 per student to enhance kids' understanding of the history in their own backyard.
