Before the dust settled from New Zealand pop star Lorde’s meteoric rise in 2013, fellow countrymen Broods dropped their weighty single, “Bridges.” Aside from their homeland connection, the brother-sister duo enlisted producer Joel Little for their debut cut — he famously co-wrote and produced Lorde’s initial EP. The pulsing, yearning track was a promising introduction to Broods’ majestic brand of pop. The duo’s sophomore album, Conscious, ratchets up what their previous releases established: saturated synths, EDM embellishments, confessional lyrics and sweeping refrains. Now, the emotions are bigger, the hooks are bolder and they’re primed to dominate the dance floor. Catch Broods on Friday, June 2, at the Higher Ground Ballroom in South Burlington. Michl opens.
