Bombino

When: Thu., March 24, 9-11 p.m. 2016

Take the Tamasheq word azel, loosely interpret it into American English, and you’ve got the phrase “That’s my jam.” The word makes an appropriate title for musician Bombino’s upcoming album, Azel, due April 1. Born Goumar Almoctar in Tidene, Niger, the singer and guitarist blends the musical traditions of the nomadic Tuareg culture with elements of reggae to form a unique style he calls “Tuareggae.” This time around, under the influence of producer Dave Longstreth of Dirty Projectors renown, Bombino amps up his approach with Western vocal harmonies, adding both depth and breadth to his signature sound. All together now — “That’s my jam!”

Price: $20.
