After years of playing second fiddle to for-profit Champ and The Point, Vermont Public Radio has finally snagged the first chair. Not everyone liked VPR’s recent decision to split into two stations: one for news, the other for classical music. But Seven Days readers apparently dig hearing the erudite “BBC World News” each weekday morning. Or, maybe it’s the Saturday trifecta of “Car Talk,” “Wait, Wait . . . Don’t Tell Me!” and “Prairie Home Companion” that snagged the gold.News-savvy Seven Days readers have surely recognized VPR’s efforts to step up its game on statewide overage, making it arguably the best source of daily news in Vermont. If only the pledge drives didn’t come around so often . . .
