Rob Maynard (Uncommon Grounds Coffee and Tea) — Just across the Church Street Marketplace from Starbucks, family-owned Uncommon Grounds has creaky wooden floorboards, patterned tablecloths and local art on the walls. Treats such as vegan peanut-butter bars, teacakes and biscotti sit in glass bakery cases. Burlap bags of coffee beans, sourced from all over the world, are stacked against the walls, waiting to roast in the huge Probat L12 by the door. It’s little surprise that, after more than two decades in business, the spot is still winning over the hearts and minds of the coffee-drinking public. It doesn’t hurt that best barista Rob Maynard is behind the counter, appreciated by local coffee aficionados for his passion and perfect cups.
