For years, Tristan O’Neil of Burlington wanted to make a series of beer education videos, but there was one crippling problem: The youngster couldn’t snag a six-pack at the supermarket. “I’d been to Canada a couple times, but I also went to Belgium for a week, and that’s when I really fell in love with beer,” the now-21-year-old recalls.

Having come of age, O’Neil, who works for Vermont Business Magazine and loves drinking Trappist ales from Belgium, decided to make his idea a reality. To date, he and his future brother-in-law, Scott DesJardins of Stannard, have churned out four biweekly episodes of “I Like Beer,” which include blind tastings and straight-up comparisons between similar products.

While the hosts do drink and discuss local artisan brews, such as Magic Hat’s bright-red Wacko, they don’t shy away from hyper-popular national brands. The most recent episode pits Corona with “real lime” against lime-flavored Bud Lite, which the twosome says tastes like “lime Skittles shoved into a Bud Lite.”

On alternate weeks, O’Neil goes solo for “Professor T. Beer Honeydew’s Beerography Lesson,” in which he selects a single American beer and discusses its history, body and flavor. Both shows are available at ilikebeer.tv, but if time is short, go for a crash course in “Beerography.” The last two “I Like Beer” episodes each weighed in at nearly 42 minutes.
