Take these recent examples. Maine’s first radio show about cannabis has been airing on WFMX-107.9 The Mix, reports the Portland Press Herald.
"We want to entertain them, but in between all the songs, we are gonna educate them, and hopefully, once they have the facts, we’re gonna activate them,” said Dawson Julia, the owner of a medical marijuana shop and cohost of "Cannabis Connection."
Meanwhile, in Colorado, where voters legalized recreational marijuana in 2012, someone opened a cannabis-friendly gym. Break the Stigma Fitness in Wheat Ridge offers group classes such as yoga and kickboxing, reports KDVR-TV. No marijuana is sold there, but patrons are offered free samples.
Patron Ashley Kingsley finds it a great way to let loose.
“Gotta get the kids to sports, gotta make dinner, gotta clean the house, gotta work 40 hours a week. When I come in here and I consume cannabis, this softens," she told the TV station, gesturing to her head, “and my body comes alive.”
Here are some other cannabis stories we read this week:
March 12: OK, you can exhale. A Vermont House bill that would have allowed towns to classify marijuana odor as a public nuisance went up in smoke. It didn’t survive “crossover,” meaning the bill didn’t make it out of committee in time to be considered by the full House and, eventually, the Senate. At least one sponsor of the bill thinks it still has a chance. [Alan J. Keays, VTDigger.org]
March 14: In California, where cannabis is legal, bags of weed have all sorts of warnings and labels on them. Here’s an explainer on what it all means. [David Downs, GreenState]
March 14: Another California story: A coworking space for those in the cannabis industry is coming to Hollywood. [Alissa Walker, Curbed LA]
March 15: More from the Golden State! San Francisco is the first California city to allow Amsterdam-like cannabis lounges, where customers can buy — and smoke — weed on site. Groovy. [Paul Elias, Associated Press]
March 15: With another hearing on the topic Thursday, Connecticut legislators continued a long-running debate on the legalization of recreational cannabis. [Susan Raff, WSFB-TV]
