Betsy Caroline Lewis, age 64 years, a lifelong St. Albans resident passed away Sunday afternoon August 17, 2014, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility.

Born in St. Albans on August 8, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Allen J. and Janice (Spear) Berard. Her paternal grandparents were F. Russell and Ethel Spear. Russell was editor of the Saint Albans Messenger for many years.

Betsy leaves her daughter, Kelly and husband Marlon Remillard; two beloved grandchildren, Jessica and Jacob; one sister, Sheralyn Bourgeois and husband Michael; two nephews, Sean Bourgeois and his wife Jaime and Justin Bourgeois and wife Anita; two great nieces, Brilee and Alexandra Bourgeois; a great nephew, J. Betsy began her working career in the St. Albans school system and from there began a long association as switchboard operator first, at the old St. Albans Hospital and continuing until her illness at the Northwestern Medical Center.

She loved working on her gardens, knitting, watching cooking shows, trips to Maine and of course listening to her “Tom Jones.”

Betsy’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the professionals and caregivers that helped her through these most difficult times. Also a very special thanks to her good friend Linda Foss.

At Betsy’s request there will be no public calling hours.

A private family funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Reverend Megan Stowe, pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will also be private at the Spear family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

For those who wish gifts in Betsy’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
