Pick-Your-Own Apple Orchards in Vermont

Published October 1, 2011 at 4:00 a.m.

Forget about pickled peppers. A "peck" is a unit of measure, equivalent to two gallons, commonly used to quantify apples. Four pecks make a bushel. Those white paper bags — with the handles — sold at farm stands hold a half peck. However many you want, find them at any of these pick-your-own orchards. Be sure to call ahead for hours and to determine the availability of apple varieties.
