Tired of waiting in line for groceries? Get them online instead. Launched last week, Grocery Go Go offers wares on the web for customers in Burlington, South Burlington or Winooski. All you have to do is visit the site, browse the virtual aisles, and set up a delivery time.
For owner Patrick Kompf, the grocery site is a natural extension of his delivery biz, 863-TOGO. He created it to drum up business between meals, when fewer people are ordering take-out from local restaurants.
GGG offers about 4000 different items, ranging from fennel to freezer bags. Want something else? Click the "suggest a product" button. If Kompf can find it, he'll add it.
Just don't ask him where he shops. Because Grocery Go Go is not affiliated with a particular market, you won't see any generic brands in your bags.
Prices are generally higher online than in the grocery store. The $3.99 delivery fee doesn't pay for the time spent shopping, or Kompf's overhead, so he adds a surcharge to each item. That said, he aims to keep the price of staples low.
Kompf believes that the bulk of his business will come from college students who are willing to pay a premium for convenience. But he doesn't want the price of milk or bread to prevent other people from shopping at GGG - he'd like to service elderly people who no longer drive, for example. He keeps things current with weekly updates based on price changes and product availability.
To place an order on Grocery Go Go, visit the website at http://www.grocerygogo.com. Kompf takes cash, checks and cards, including UVM's Cat$cratch, St. Mike's Knights Card and Champlain's CC Bucks.
