Alton Brown, one of the New England Culinary Institute's most famed graduates, returns to Vermont for a stop on his "Eat Your Science" tour. The celeb chef, author and TV host's show includes songs, demos and wacky antics. If you show up, be prepared: Brown likes to invite audience volunteers to join him onstage.

More food events

'New England Cooks' with Peter Colman: Now in its sixth year, "New England Cooks" features chefs and food producers hamming it up in front of a live audience. Past episodes have showcased NECI executive chef Jean-Louis Gerin, Sam Palmisano of Pulcinella's, and Donnell Collins of Leunig's Bistro & Café. This time around, the crowd at the live taping gets to hang with Peter Roscini Colman, owner of Plainfield's Vermont Salumi. Thursday, October 26, 7-8:30 p.m., Central Vermont Television, Barre. $18. Gilfeather Turnip Festival: Celebrate Vermont's state vegetable at this annual gathering featuring live music, craft vendors, snacks and, of course, a turnip competition. Entrants compete for the titles of largest turnip, best turnip name and best "strange and/or funny turnip." It's a family event, though, so keep those funny turnips clean. Sugarhouse Breakfast: Don't miss the final edition of the LimLaw Family Maple Farm's Fall Breakfast series. The buffet-style brunch includes dishes such as cheddar-and-bacon quiche, biscuits with sausage gravy, and buttery bread pudding.
