Rupa & the April Fishes

When: Sat., March 7, 8 p.m. 2015

Doctor by day, musician by night: Rupa Marya is one busy lady. As the front woman for Rupa & the April Fishes, the composer, singer and guitarist reimagines world music, performing an expansive repertoire in English, French, Spanish and Hindi. The daughter of Punjabi immigrants, Marya spent her childhood traveling throughout the United States, France and India. This exposure to a wide range of musical styles now influences the San Francisco-based band’s sound — a multilingual mix that travels from raga and reggae to cumbia and chanson. The always-eclectic performers hit the stage with Bella’s Bartok and the Suitcase Junket.

Price: $12-14.
