Dream-pop is a descriptor often applied to musical projects without much thought as to how dreams actually work. The visions we see in our sleep are messy, inconsistent, confusing and ephemeral. Daydreams, on the other hand, are the product of the waking mind drifting off into other levels of consciousness. Perhaps “daydream-pop” is the best way to describe Brooklyn quintet Gingerlys. Far from erratic and perplexing, the band’s vision of airy, guitar-driven pop feels grounded and confident, despite its overall ethereal quality. Gingerlys perform on Thursday, February 1, at Speaking Volumes in Burlington. Anna Altman and locals Gestalt and Adam Wolf open.
