Bernie Bits: Sanders Wins Nod From Deez Nuts

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has scored the endorsement of America's biggest up-and-coming political sensation.

That's right. I'm talkin' about Deez Nuts.

The parody presidential candidate — actually a 15-year-old farm boy from Iowa named Brady Olson — made a splash last week when he picked up the support of between 7 and 9 percent of those surveyed in North Carolina, Iowa and Minnesota by Public Policy Polling.

Though he's running as an independent, Mr. Nuts made a surprise entry into the Democratic and Republican primaries on Friday.

"Just gonna throw this out there now," Nuts wrote on his Facebook page. "This is not for the general election. My endorsement for the Democratic nomination goes to Vermont senator Bernie Sanders."

A few minutes later, he endorsed Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the Republican primary, adding, "I endorse myself for the [general election]."

Reached by In These Times, Olson explained why Nuts was backing the Vermont senator.

“Because he almost completely agrees on me with social issues and even some on fiscal issues," Olson wrote.

Seven Days did not reach out to the Sanders campaign for comment on Deez Nuts' endorsement, fearing he would respond like he did when the New York Times asked about Democratic rival Hillary Clinton's hair.

Heck, we'll just sub in what he told the Times: "I am running for president of the United States on serious issues, O.K.? Do you have serious questions?"

No, obviously not.
