The Week Ahead: March 18-24, 2013

Happy Monday, news and politics geeks. We're getting to crunch time in the Statehouse, Burlington's mayor is going back to school, and Seven Days is running this year's Vermont Brew Bracket — a subject near and dear to many of your hearts, we know. Here's what you should add to the calendar.

If you have an event you want to see on next week's calendar, email Andy Bromage with details.

Monday, March 18

9:45 a.m.: As I write this, Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger is moving his office to Burlington High School. He'll be there all week to connect with students and teachers and promote something called the Partnership for Change, and we'll highlight more of the interesting events in this here post.

6 p.m.: The Burlington Board of Finance and City Council hold their Monday meetings at Burlington High School.

Tuesday, March 19

All day: It's going to snow.

Wednesday, March 20

All day through Friday: Lt. Gov. Phil Scott spends the rest of the week at National Lt. Governors’ Association Federal-State Relations Meeting in Washington, D.C.

7:45 a.m.: Weinberger plays pickup basketball in the BHS gym. We see him as a ball-distributing point- guard type of player.

8 a.m.: After he wipes off the sweat, Weinberger hosts his weekly mayoral coffee klatch at the BHS cafeteria this week.

10 a.m.: Gov. Peter Shumlin holds his weekly press conference in the Statehouse Ceremonial Room.

1:30 p.m.: Weinberger hosts a roundtable at BHS with students, community members and business leaders.

7 p.m.: The Peace and Justice Center hosts a talk by war correspondent Chris Hedges at the Ira Allen Chapel at UVM.

Thursday, March 21

All day Thursday and Friday: Shumlin has two "personal days" off. We hear Dominica is nice this time of year, governor.

6 p.m.: The Transition Town Series at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier hosts a talk by educator Eric Garza on fossil-fuel consumption and food security.

6:30 p.m.: Vermont Health Connect hosts an informational meeting about the coming health care exchange at the Charlotte Library. More info here [PDF].

Friday, March 22

1:30 p.m.: Mayor Week at Burlington High School ends with "Closing Ceremonies" (yes, really) and a Town Hall-style meeting in the school's auditorium.

Saturday, March 23

3:15 p.m.: This one's for the stat geeks and Moneyball aficionados: Former New York Mets statistician Ben Baumer gives a talk on baseball's sabermetric revolution at Cheray Hall 101 at St. Michael's College in Colchester.

Sunday, March 24
