On November 1, Burlington City Arts will say goodbye to gallery manager and assistant curator Ashley Jimenez.

Jimenez, 30, says that she's "ready and eager" to move on to a new chapter. "I will always value the relationships that I’ve made with the artists that I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the past four years," she tells Seven Days. "I’ve made some good friends through BCA, put together some great exhibitions and have been a part of an organization that makes a profound impact on its community."

Jimenez describes her job as "a little bit of everything, between managing the [BCA] Artist Market, Holiday Artist Market, [the] budget for the gallery, and installations."

As her title implies, curation has also been a key responsibility.

"I've always had a heavy hand in managing the Of Land and Local project," Jimenez says. That show, which started in 2013, exhibits Vermont artists at both the BCA Center gallery in Burlington and the Coach Barn at Shelburne Farms in Shelburne. The 2017 edition of the exhibit begins in early October and runs into January 2018 in both locations.

She explains that she and former BCA curator DJ Hellerman took a "divide and conquer approach" to OLaL.

"I tended to manage the exhibition at Shelburne farms while he had a larger part in coordinating the BCA site," Jimenez says. She currently co-curates OLaL with curator and director of exhibitions Heather Ferrell. During a 2016 gap in curators between Hellerman and Ferrell, Jimenez and BCA employee Meara McGinniss teamed up to curate the show.

"It's always been a really exciting project to be a part of," Jimenez says.

In a statement made Friday, BCA assistant director Sara Katz called Jimenez "a rock" of the exhibitions program.

"We are sad to lose her as a community resource, as a BCA teammate, and as a chef," Katz wrote.  "She loves to share with others what she loves in life. But most importantly, she has always been someone we can count on to follow through — she has an unwavering commitment to artists, to the people she works with, and to BCA."
