The blurry shot above mirrors the buzzy energy inside Misery Loves Co. late this morning, less than an hour after it opened inside the ex-Don Pedro's Taqueria space in Winooski.
Gone are the wild parrot hues of the previous tenants; they've been replaced by cool, white walls and tile, a pale, zigzag wood floor, and vintage pendant lamps. By 11:30 a.m., all of the nine or so tables were filled, oversize sandwiches were flying off the grill and the only memory of the former tenants was a small tray of hot sauces.
The opening day menu resembled a carbon copy of thejet-black chalkboard that used to hang on the side of Big Red. Seven sandwichesincluded the fatty and sweet PB&J — grilled pork belly, tomato jam and dandeliongreens — and a riff on the Reuben called a Dunnsky, with corned beef,sauerkraut and raclette.
Now, though, visitors can wash down their porchetta sandwiches with something stronger than Limonata. A separate board lists Spanish and Italian wines by the glass; ahandful of beers (including Trapp Family Lodge Brewery's Vienna Lager and St-Ambroise Oatmeal Stout); CitizenCider from Essex; and a clutch of sodas.
For now, MLC is serving lunch only, Mondaysthrough Saturdays, with dinner service to follow in December. You can find them at 46 Main St.
