If you dream of pulling brilliant orange baby carrots andcandy-striped chioggia beets from a loam of your own, read on.

The Vermont Land Trust, a nonprofit conservationorganization, has recently purchased the one-of-a-kind Bragg Farm of Fayston.This scenic and historic farm, nestled among the Green Mountains, includingSugarbush’s Mount Ellen and Lincoln Peak, was a dairy enterprise until 1973.

Now, through the VLT’s Farmland Access Program, the farm will be sold to aqualified, experienced farmer at its agricultural value. The new farmer will be chosen based on a variety of criteria.

One of the VLT's goals is that the farm operation aim to preserve theworking landscape and serve as an instrumental asset to the already productiveand resilient agricultural region of the Mad River Valley. Proposals are dueOctober 26, as the Land Trust hopes to select the new owner inNovember.

As someone whose fairy tale consists of the challenges andrewards of earning a living off the land, embracing risks and nourishing thelocal community, I find this an opportunity I'm incapable of passing up. I know I'll be at the open house on September 19 and 29from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Will you?
